Ownership and Privacy
System Requirements
You own the equipment. Your essential smart-home functions operate locally. Internet access is useful for updates and optional remote features, but your home should not become useless just because a cloud service or subscription disappears.
- An available Ethernet port on your home router
- A nearby electrical outlet
- Standard E26 bulb sockets for the included bulbs
- Smart bulbs should not be installed on incompatible dimmer switches
- This is not a professionally monitored security or emergency-response system
Smart Home FAQ
Does this system require internet?
Most fundamental smart-home actions, such as toggling a light or responding to a sensor, happen locally within your home. An internet connection is primarily utilized for remote access via your phone when you are away and to download system updates.
Is there a required monthly fee?
No. The hardware and the initial configuration are a one-time purchase. There are no mandatory monthly subscriptions to keep the core local system running. Ongoing remote stewardship is an optional separate service.
Can I add more devices later?
Yes. The system is designed using open standards like Matter and Zigbee. You can add compatible bulbs, plugs, and sensors yourself periodically, or ask Stu to help integrate more complex items later.
Can Stu manage the system remotely?
If you subscribe to a Smart Home Care plan, Stu can securely monitor system health, perform backups, and apply security updates remotely. Without a plan, Stu has no remote access to your system.
What happens if I cancel remote management?
The system remains yours and continues to function locally. You simply take over the responsibility of checking for updates and maintaining your own backups.
Do I own the equipment?
Correct. Once purchased, the hub and sensors are yours. There is no equipment rental or 'return it if you cancel' policy.
Will it work with Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home?
The hub can be bridged to these platforms if you choose, allowing you to use their voice assistants, but the underlying logic and data remain stored locally on your own hardware.
Is this a professionally monitored security system?
No. While the system can send you notifications about sensor activity, it is not connected to a central monitoring station and does not dispatch emergency services.
How long will configuration and delivery take?
Typically, your kit is built, labeled, and tested within 7-10 business days of your order. Stu will coordinate a specific delivery and orientation time once the hardware is ready.
Ready for a smart home that belongs to you?
Configured. Labeled. Tested. Handled.
